Girlfriend TherapyMarch 16th, 2010 by bethkiddI met a friend for dinner last night, we solved all the world’s problems over a two hour dinner. Happy Tuesday! And remember, sunny and 60 tomorrow. Oh YEAH! The Dead Sea ScrollsMarch 15th, 2010 by bethkiddMy husband and I had both the time and inclination to go on a date yesterday! So we went to the Science Museum to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit. It’s truly amazing on so many levels and worth the cost of the ticket. If you’re a member of the Science Museum (we are) the tickets are considerably less than they would be otherwise. This exhibit will be at the SMM through Ocotober but if yesterday was any indication interest in attending is high so it might be worth it to reserve your time. That lightens my outlook considerably Listen to your heart….February 23rd, 2010 by bethkiddDo you know your numbers? As you know February is the month that we “Go Red for Women.” It’s the month in which we should take stock of our heart health. You may not know it, but heart disease kills more women than cancer. It’s the number one killer of women. And living with heart disease can diminish the quality of your life. Here’s what you should do…..go to www.goredforwomen.org Click on the heart check up and find out your risk. You will be asked for numbers such as your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, weight, if you smoke, your excercise habits and diet. They will tally it up and let you know your heart score. My is 8.8. The scale runs from 1-10. I have corrected many bad habits, I quit smoking years ago. I exercise and I know my numbers. My goal is to be closer to 10 next year. How about you? The website, it’s the American Heart Association, has great tips to help make the changes to help your heart remain healthy. Take your heart seriously. You can die from a broken heart, so take charge of your heart health today! What is love anyway?February 19th, 2010 by bethkiddBetween you and me, I am not a big fan of Valentines day. Part of it is the time of year I guess. It’s cold, gray and damp. But it’s long felt like “Guys Can’t Win Day” to me. The expections of diamonds, expensive gifts of all types, the perfect dinner out and so it goes. I came home yesterday to two very loving gestures from my spouse. The icy path between the house and garage had been completely sanded. The laundry was done. Loving gesture from me to him? He had to work late Wednesday. I left a warm meal in the oven for him. He does hard physical work, I am always ready to work the knots out of his back. Saying “I Love You” dosen’t have to come from a store. The little things, the thoughtful gestures say that in a way that “stuff” never could. A great but tiring week.February 12th, 2010 by bethkiddLast month I spent the week with my two youngest nieces while their parents took a vacation. No doubt they were still airborne when the littlest of the girls walked over to me, held out her little arms in the classic pick me up position and once safely in my arms threw up. Long story short, she shared with her sister and it was three days of very upset tummies. Not mine though, in fact since then it has run through all of my loved ones except me, my oldest and my Aunt Linda. After the illness ran it’s course we had a blast. We played blocks, read stories, I learned about the new Disney princesses who have come along since my little kid days and we danced. In my case I danced with no grace and much enthusiasm. The girls thought that was great fun, a grown up acting like a little kid. Did I do that enough with my own kids? Probably not. One of the many advantages of getting older is forgiving yourself for things undone and allowing yourself to still be like a little kid when the situation calls for it. I was asked recently if I would relive my 20’s. Not on your life. Have a lovely Valentines Day! Looking forward to a lively week :)January 14th, 2010 by bethkiddMy chidren range in age from teenager to young adult. Next week, I am taking a few days off to hang out with my preschool nieces. It will be a week of Sesame Street, Dr. Suess and Candyland. As much I am looking forward to this I don’t kid myself thinking I would like to start over. I am filled with great admiration for the Grandparents and other family members who step in when, for whatever reason, parents aren’t up to the task. If you know someone in this situation or if you know some stressed young parents offer to hang out with the little ones for awhile while they take a break. It’s one of those situations where everyone wins, including you! New Year, New StudiosJanuary 6th, 2010 by bethkiddAfter 11 years in our old studios, we have moved down to the 2nd floor in the CBS Radio Building (WLTE is owned by CBS) and everything is new and shiny. And we have a “stand up” board which is nice. Still, I seldom leave anything behind without feeling just a touch of sadness. I had to buzz up there today as my computer and phone are still there. That is officially the strangest place that I have this year! It won’t be too long before I am no longer working between two spaces. Hope you’re New Year is off to shiny start was well! Christmas WeekendDecember 26th, 2009 by bethkiddThe was much said about the winter storm that ensured beyond doubt a white Christmas. We spent Christmas Eve with family and had a wonderful time. Driving Christmas Eve night was dicey and our church services were cancelled. We found that out by text as we were making merry. By text. On Spouses cellphone. Is there any device that is so handy and so annoying in equal measure? Christmas Day was supposed to be at our home but because of the possibility of bad weather we postponed everything till Sunday. As it happens, Christmas Day might have worked but I’m OK with how it turned out. We opened gifts, napped, read new books, napped, watched it snow/rain, napped. Well, you get the idea :) I hope you’re having a relaxing Christmas weekend! Was it worth it?December 8th, 2009 by bethkiddAs Tiger Woods watches his persona as a squeaky clean family guy unravel, I wonder. Was it worth it? The older I get the more I dislike drama and complications and being a serial cheater, as Tiger seems to be, would be the quickest way to insure plenty of both drama and complications. I feel sorry for his wife and kids. |
